The Rock Blow's into Chicago for The Green Ribbon Ride!

The following letter is from the Ride Promoter of the "Green Ribbon Ride"

Hi Dave,
Wanted to let you know that your chapter got 3rd place for attendance.  The longest
distance went to Clay from Camden, NJ.  He is riding to Alaska with Steve Wendt.
Sure glad you were able to attend.  None of our local chapters came and Dave Hume
and I traveled to their meetings to tell them all about it.  We will try to get your award
to you.  Also, one of your girls got 3rd place in the bike show.

Jack

Dave,

Please extend our many thanks to your chapter and to your members who attended the
Third Annual Chicago Green Ribbon Motorcycle Ride & Rally Sunday.  All I heard was,
Rock River’s Here!  Rock River’s here!” You showed the locals here  what this is all about.

Thanks once again, and we will see you in September!

The Chicago Green Ribbon Ride

Whoa, you say 7:00 am at the dealership on a Sunday morning to take a ride to Chi Town? Good grief what was I thinking?! Well,
Dave Bastin and yours truly volunteered for this adventure to attend the Chicago Green Ribbon Ride. Boy, oh boy, and what a ride it was!

It all started off with 19 two wheelers, 26 two legers, and a partly cloudy, down right dismal morning. That is until we rode up over a rise and there, like a shinning beacon was “Bob”.  Father Bob, the provider of wisdom, the holder of knowledge, and the ultimate person to have on a ride when you’re looking for the sun to come out some time sooner than later. “Breaker, breaker there Bob.  While you’re tooling along with nothing to do, can you send up a small prayer to You Know Who for some sunshine?” I said.  He replied, “You know it’s not all that bad right now.” Oh well, couldn’t hurt.

Suddenly around the next bend was a break in the clouds and sure enough a little sun.  Not too much you understand, but some. We arrived at the Chicago dealership and they were so dad gum happy to see us coming in.  All in formation, staggered and eager to sign up they almost…well, I won’t go there.  But needless to say they were very happy to see The Rock.

After signing up and giving our donations, we were to follow a couple of bright green shirted leaders who we will call “Road Runners” for visual effect, to the rally site. Well here’s where it gets interesting. “Follow” is the operative word here. Because it was pedal to the metal and after the first red light Dave Bastin (Wyle E Coyote) was trying his best to stay up with The Green shirted (Road Runners) leading to where?  We didn’t know. They just went “Beep”, “Beep” and left us in the dust.

Hot, tired, and in need of refreshment, we turn left, then right, then left and then to the side to view the map. Luckily for us there was one of the locals in our group from the dealership that said, “Hey I know where to go.” Ok, we were just going to tell you that, I mean no, great, get your butt up front and you have the con. One left, two blocks then right, one block, then right again, then left two more and there in the distance a flag man. Yahoo! We have done it. We are here. Quick turn off the hot horses, run for a brew, and everything is right with the world.

All in all they were very appreciative and let us know they have 20 rooms reserved for our Breast Cancer Ride. Food was good, there were a few vendors, and it was truly an experience to take the “escorted” ride to the rally site. Thanks, Dave, for a great route and remember, what happens in Chi Town, stays in Chi Town. Later.
